Dr. Vaikunthan Rajaratnam is an esteemed hand surgeon, medical educator, and instructional designer with over forty years of clinical practice and teaching experience. He has made significant contributions to public and professional health education, leveraging technology to empower learners and educators.
Dr. Rajaratnam is a Senior Consultant Hand Surgeon at KTPH National Healthcare Group and a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the National University of Singapore’s School of Medicine. He also holds the position of Program Director of Instructional Design and Artificial Intelligence for Healthcare Professionals at NHG College, Singapore. Furthermore, he is an APU-UNESCO Chair Partner and Adjunct Professor at the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation in Malaysia.
Dr. Rajaratnam is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators (UK), the Faculty of Surgical Trainers, the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, and the Higher Education Academy (UK). His expertise spans hand surgery, orthopedic surgery, microsurgery, medical education, instructional design, technology, generative AI in education, and surgical volunteerism. He has developed online teaching programs for health professional research and mentored surgeons globally. His broad experience encompasses teaching, training, curriculum development, research, and healthcare management, including the design of ambulatory surgical centers. As a prolific author, he has published numerous books and journal articles and serves as an academic journal reviewer.
