Ms. Thilakshi is a plastic and reconstructive surgery consultant with a special interest in hand surgery. She earned her medical degree from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, in 2007 and subsequently entered surgical training, obtaining an MD in Surgery from the University of Colombo in 2016. After 7 years of local plastic surgery training and 2 years of fellowships in the UK, in 2023, she achieved board certification as a specialist in plastic and reconstructive surgery from the Sri Lanka Medical Council.Her training includes several prestigious fellowships, such as a Paediatric Plastic Surgery Fellowship at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and a Hand Surgery Fellowship at Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, UK. From 2022 to 2024, she completed a Microsurgery Fellowship at Cambridge University Hospital, focusing on breast, head, and neck cancer reconstruction and lower limb trauma. She was also awarded a Microsurgery Fellowship at Ganga Hospital in India and has done many training workshops in Hand surgery in Singapore, the UK, and the USA. 

Her clinical interests are notably diverse, encompassing hand and wrist surgery and gender reassignment phalloplasty. Her dedication to hand surgery is evidenced by her fellowship with the European Society of Hand Surgeons since 2023, following the completion of the Hand Surgery European Diploma. Currently, she practices as a Hand Surgeon and is also an associate member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS).

Ms. Thilakshi's contributions extend beyond clinical practice to include a strong commitment to education. She is actively involved in teaching medical students and plastic surgery trainees, ensuring the next generation of surgeons benefit from her knowledge and experience. Additionally, she is passionate about giving back to the community and frequently engages in volunteer surgeries, using her skills to provide much-needed medical care to underserved populations.
